An off-duty police officer was first to report a blaze at a Masterton home yesterday morning that left a person suffering from smoke inhalation.
Fire service spokesman Mike Wanoa said the emergency call was fielded at 8.15am and two fire crews were sent to the McKenna St property ahead of an ambulance crew that also attended.
Firefighters found the blaze had started in a refrigerator at the home. The fire was doused and a person at the property treated for smoke inhalation.
Mr Wanoa said a fire safety investigation had been launched to establish the cause of the blaze.
