A sacked psychiatric nurse has successfully won back his job back at Whanganui Hospital.
The nurse was dismissed by the DHB for the way he handled an upset patient in January last year.
During the incident the unnamed nurse is said to have punched the patient in the mouth after he was kneed in the stomach.
The Employment Relations Authority has found the dismissal was unfair, as the assault was never proven.
It has ordered that the nurse be reinstated and paid almost $30,000 for loss of income and compensation for humiliation and loss of dignity.
