Normally, A black carrot would signify something rotten - but in Ohakune yesterday if was a sign the Rugby World Cup is less than two weeks away.
The carrot, which the town claims is the largest model of the vegetable in the world and is the thing (apart from snow) that the town is most recognised for, was painted black in support of the All Blacks' bid for glory. Ruapehu District Council says the carrot will be repainted after the World Cup.
A good crowd turned out to see the carrot dug up ...or unveiled.
