Runway purged of mutts

Tuvaluan authorities had to put down 300 stray dogs so the main island of Funafuti could keep its only air service.

Air Pacific threatened to pull its twice-weekly 1200km flight between Fiji and Funafuti because of safety concerns about dogs roaming on the island group's only runway.

There were no objections when the dogs were put down, said police.
