More than 500 runs were scored when Marist-Chanel Old Boys scored a five-wicket win over Red Star in a Wairarapa open grade cricket match played last weekend.
Red Star batted first in the limited-overs fixture and with Nik Karaitiana (70) and Tim Burling (61) leading the way got through to a healthy 257-8. Bowling for MCOB Marcus Howie finished with 3-30 from his eight overs.
Former Wairarapa senior representative Gerald Lologa was in dominant form from the start of the MCOB innings, smashing his way in typically belligerent fashion to an unbeaten 103. He was well supported by Chanel College student Dion Field who was 64 not out when victory was achieved with five wickets down.
The pick of the Red Star bowlers was Hawley Mapasua who took 2-28 from his eight overs.
