KEY POINTS:
A drunken spree outside the Hilton Hotel at London's Heathrow airport in which two cars were damaged is going to cost All Blacks winger Doug Howlett more than $26,000.
However, the owner of a late-model BMW damaged in the antics still wants an apology, The Dominion-Post reported today.
Witnesses had also revealed new details of the incident that included Howlett wearing a hotel planter on his head during the car rampage.
Howlett was arrested after the incident in which it was claimed he jumped on the two cars after a drinking bout with teammates and management following the World Cup quarterfinal defeat to France.
Scotland Yard has dropped charges against him.
Nottingham man David Poole, 52, returned from overseas to find the roof of his 2005 BMW 3-series caved in and dents on the bonnet, with repairs amounting to 5000 pounds ($13,600).
The total repair bill for both cars was estimated to be 10,000 pounds, which Howlett would have to pay.
Mr Poole told The Dominion Post he believed that Howlett was remorseful and said the All Black had made efforts to make amends through British lawyer James Price.
"... it was a stupid thing to do (but) his lawyers ... have been quick to respond to make sure the damage is fixed."
Mr Poole said he had not talked to Howlett and wanted him to call and apologise.
He said witnesses had told him Howlett was wearing a planter box on his head during some of the antics.
Howlett is expected to appear before a NZRU disciplinary hearing in the next few weeks.
Howlett's contract with the NZRU lapses at the end of the year. He has signed with the Irish club Munster.
