KEY POINTS:
Napier's Marist Rugby club rooms were seriously damaged in fire overnight, the fire service said today.
Central fire communications shift manager Andrew Tollison told NZPA the fire service was called about 1.15am to the building, which was next to McLean Park.
The two-storey concrete block was well ablaze by the time they arrived and there was "significant" damage to the building," he said.
Four appliances and a command unit were called to fight the blaze and the fire had been extinguished by this morning, Mr Tollison said.
Fire safety officers were at the scene today investigating the cause of the fire.
