Auckland Rugby has formally reprimanded the club that threw a party at Eden Park featuring topless models frolicking with former All Black captain Murray Mexted.
The Herald on Sunday revealed last week that Auckland University Rugby Football Club had hosted a pre-test function at which a body-painted model auctioned her underwear.
Now, the Auckland Rugby Union board has officially censured the club, and the vice-chancellor of Auckland University has given it a telling-off.
Auckland Rugby Union chairman Ken Baguley, an AURFC old boy who attended the Eden Park luncheon, said this weekend: "We did pass a resolution saying that we didn't condone that sort of behaviour - we thought it wasn't conducted appropriately."
He added that nudity was not the centrepiece of the event, at which Winston Peters and Mexted spoke.
"The reason people go to it is the entertainment, the speakers, and your mates," Baguley said.
"You don't go there because there's a bunch of painted birds."
