RSA killer William Bell has been stripped of a pair of prison officer trousers after showing off in them.
Prison sources say Bell's Auckland maximum security prison cell was searched by six officers in 'D' block on Friday last week. One of the items seized was prison officer's trousers, which Bell, 34, had been wearing around the prison.
The Department of Corrections has refused to comment.
But if Bell was intending to impersonate a prison officer, it is a chilling reminder of his slayings at an Auckland RSA in December 2001 - he was wearing a police shirt at the time.
Bell was sentenced to 33 years' jail without parole for his part in the shooting of Wayne Johnson and the bashing to death of Mary Hobson and Bill Absolum at the Mt Wellington-Panmure RSA. It was the longest sentence handed down by a New Zealand judge, though it was later reduced by three years on appeal.
