The Returned Services Association is disgusted by the theft of 45 plaques marking veterans' graves in South Auckland.
It is believed they were stolen from the Otahuhu Cemetery at the weekend.
Auckland RSA president Gary Walker says the memorials tell a story about the servicemen by listing all their key details.
He suspects they will be melted down into scrap metal and is appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
The veterans' association says it will replace the stolen plaques if they are not recovered.
