A 67-year-old Roxburgh man has pleaded guilty to murdering his wife in March last year.
Warren Bruce Johnston, who was due to go to trial next week, entered his plea in the High Court at Dunedin this morning.
His wife, Lesley Ann Johnston, was shot in the back twice at the couple's home on March 11 last year.
Johnston, who was using a walking stick and had to sit during most of the arraignment today, was remanded in custody for sentencing in March.
Justice Andrews also entered a first strike against his name, under the three-strike system.
