A woman was found dead and a man seriously injured after a domestic row shattered the peace of a cul-de-sac just north of Auckland yesterday.
Police said today they had launched a homicide inquiry.
Emergency services were called to the house in Anvil Rd, in the industrial sector of Silverdale, about 1pm.
They found the body of the middle-aged woman and the injured man, who was taken to North Shore Hospital, where he remained last night.
Inspector Nicholson said today: "A weapon has been recovered at the scene."
Police officers spent several hours interviewing neighbours in the street, 35km north of central Auckland.
No charges had been laid this morning but police confirmed they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the death and they continued to describe the incident as "domestic related".
Forensic experts were expected to remain at the scene overnight, and an autopsy was being carried out on the woman's body today.
Last Tuesday, police found the body of a 34-year-old mother of five, who they allege died at the hands of her partner in Mangere.
The 33-year-old man appeared in Manukau District Court the next day charged with murdering her.
It was the seventh time in five months that a woman's partner had been charged with her murder.
