Bill Day, Entrepreneur of the Year 2000 and founder of the multimillion-dollar global marine company Seaworks, may be the vice-chairman of the right-wing Business Roundtable but he is siding with Labour this election.
In a discussion with Finance Minister Michael Cullen yesterday, Mr Day said he was going to vote for the ruling party's re-election.
The Business Roundtable has been a staunch critic of Labour policies such as increasing the top tax rate. "We are never going to agree completely but you could say that we are about right," Mr Day said.
The tension between social legislation that promoted optimum growth was "always going to be different from social legislation that promotes optimum equity".
