Rotorua has been shaken by an earthquake tonight.
The quake at 9.17pm was a magnitude 2.6, according to Geonet. However it was centred within 5km of Rotorua and was just 4km deep.
Geonet initially reported the quake as 2.5 magnitude and 5km deep but later updated that.
Within 15
minutes more than 1100 people had reported feeling it on the Geonet website
People from all over the city have taken to the Rotorua Daily Post Facebook page to report feeling the quake, many commenting it was loud and one saying it sounded like an explosion.
