Rotorua had waited a long time to host the powhiri and the tour's first game next Saturday against Bay of Plenty, he said. People could hardly believe the time had come.

Rotorua Mayor Kevin Winters has encouraged locals to go to Rotorua Airport tomorrow to give the Lions a rousing reception when they fly in from Auckland about 1.30pm.
Flags will be handed out and there will be a few minutes to get autographs before the team go to Ohinemutu for the powhiri.
A host of events is planned for the weekend of the game, including a Lions breakfast, a Lions pool party, an "Undie 500" street race, rugby matches between Lions fans and locals, and markets selling local arts and crafts.
Bars are gearing up for an onslaught of thirsty rugby fans.
Katrina Laurie, manager of the Pig and Whistle on Tutanekai St, said she had organised more staff for shifts.
