A pleasure boat towing children riding on a car tube sunk late Saturday afternoon in the bay at Castlepoint after it was apparently hit by a rogue wave.
The Castlepoint Fishing Competition had not long finished and the contestants had departed for the prize-giving held in the hall at Wakataki when the incident happened.
No-one was hurt and the children being towed had been wearing lifejackets and made it safely to shore as did the people on the boat.
The Times-Age understands the boat was able to be salvaged on Sunday and brought back to a nearby property.
