Rockfall on Desert Road disrupts traffic

Rocks have fallen onto the Desert Road on State Highway 1 north of Waiouru, blocking the northbound lane.

Police said they were contacting contractors to clear the rockfall which was in the part of the highway known as First Sister.

Vehicles using the road were recommended to use extreme care.
