Rock spills on three of four lanes on Auckland's Southern Motorway blocked traffic and caused continued congestion this morning.
Auckland motorways spokeswoman Ros Brown said the spill had happened near Greenlane and disrupted traffic to East Tamaki.
The road was blocked while the rocks were cleared before 9am.
Ms Brown said it was believed the rocks had fallen off a truck and were bound for use in a landfill.
The New Zealand Transport Agency reports that delays are expected on northbound traffic, and the Automobile Association had the section of the motorway marked slowest-moving in its four-point scale at 9.15am.
