Bruised and battered earthquake survivor Anne Malcolm will finally get to meet her guardian angel.
Barry Grottis was surprised to see a photo of himself helping CTV survivor Ms Malcolm, the mother of Outrageous Fortune actress Robyn, when he picked up The Star.
Ms Malcolm was anxious to find and thank the mystery man who assisted her when the CTV building came down.
So Mr Grottis, a 27-year-old NZ Institute of Sport student, contacted The Star on Monday night.
But a meeting with Ms Malcolm is on hold - Mr Grottis has the flu.
Ms Malcolm said she could not wait to meet him.
Mr Grottis said it was a relief to hear Ms Malcolm was recovering from her injuries.
"I was wondering how she was doing. I'd love to meet her," he said.
Mr Grottis and a passerby helped carry Ms Malcolm after she was lifted from the rubble. He then stayed with her, bandaged her arm and gave her water.
Mr Grottis had been walking on Cashel St - a route he normally did not take - when the 6.3 magnitude quake struck.
Ms Malcolm is recovering in Burwood Hospital with broken hip, femur, arms and vertebrae, as well as cracked ribs and dislocated shoulders.
The 71-year-old counsellor and grandmother was on the top floor of the CTV building when it collapsed, entombing as many as 120 people.
