A 17-year-old shot himself in the foot with a sawn-off .22 rifle while robbing a dairy, Hamilton District Court was told.
Regan Joseph Andy Hutchinson pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery with a firearm, committing a crime with a firearm, unlawfully possessing a firearm and two charges of recklessly discharging a firearm.
The charges arose from the robbery of $120 cash and $200 worth of cigarettes from the Bryant Park Mini Superette on March 14.
Hutchinson had previously appeared in Hamilton Youth Court but yesterday Judge Denise Clark remanded him on bail to be sentenced in Hamilton District Court on June 17.
She ordered a probation report, victim impact statement and referred him so a restorative justice conference could be considered.
A co-offender, whose name is suppressed, was remanded on bail. He previously admitted a charge of aggravated robbery with a firearm. Judge Clark will hear submissions about his sentencing on May 18.
