KEY POINTS:
A man with a Taser threatened the owner of a Mt Maunganui dairy in an attempted robbery.
Charles Orr, 24, unemployed, entered the Surf In Superette on Maunganui Rd at 8.30pm on June 3, had a look around, then left.
He returned a couple of minutes later carrying a Taser and approached the owner working near the back of the store.
Orr demanded money from the 50-year-old, who could see the Taser arcing. Orr grabbed the man and during the struggle the Taser struck the dairy owner on the arm, causing a laceration.
When the man's wife tried to help her husband, Orr pushed her away before pushing the shop owner into shelves so hard he fell to the ground.
Orr then ran out of the store and was chased by the shopkeeper and his teenage son, before two members of the public joined the chase to nearby railyards, where he was captured by police. Orr gave no explanation for his actions.
In Tauranga District Court this week he pleaded guilty to one charge each of assault with intent to rob and assaulting a female.
He was remanded on bail for sentencing on August 13.
