A diver who was lost at sea for 75 hours is selling his wetsuit to say thank you to those who saved his life.
Rob Hewitt, 38, a former Royal New Zealand Navy diver and brother of ex-All Black Norm Hewitt, became lost when he was separated from his diving expedition off Mana Island near Porirua in February 2006.
He had been given up for dead when he was found by the police launch Lady Elizabeth 3.
The wetsuit Mr Hewitt was wearing will be sold at a charity dinner at the Plimmerton Boating Club, Porirua, on February 7 with the proceeds going to the Mana Coastguard and the Westpac rescue helicopter service.
Mr Hewitt said that he owed his life to his wetsuit.
"It cocooned me and kept me warm," he told The Dominion Post.
Mr Hewitt said he did not know what the wetsuit would fetch but to him it was "priceless".
"Life is priceless, so the wetsuit is priceless to me."
