Roads are closed north of Wellington due to waves from a Porirua inlet lapping at the road.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, police working with Transit NZ and Porirua City Council closed State Highway 58 between James Cook Drive to Pauatahanui Town and Grays Road between Pauatahanui and Pope Street Cambourne.
"The road were closed because of the waves from the Pauatahanui Inlet coming across the road," police said.
It was expected the roads would stay closed until high tides receded, around 3am.
