Two crashes - one fatal - have closed Waikato roads overnight. A 30-year-old motorcyclist died on Baverstock Rd in Rotokauri in a crash in the early hours of the morning.
The road will be closed for several hours as the police serious crash unit investigates. Police said a criminal investigation has begun but no more information would be available until early afternoon after a preliminary scene examination.
The other crash, also early today, has shut State Highway Two through the Waikino Gorge. The road will be closed until the vehicle involved can be recovered. Its 16-year-old female driver was trapped for a while and was flown to Waikato Hospital by helicopter with serious injuries.
Alternative routes to the Coromandel are SH25 or SH29 to Tauranga.
