Fewer young people were killed on the roads in 2013 than previous years, provisional road toll figures show.
The road toll for 2013 of 254 was the lowest in the past 60 years.
Associate Transport Minister Michael Woodhouse said that represented a drop of 34 per cent on four years ago.
"It's particularly pleasing that 15 to 24 year olds have seen a significant drop with a 37 per cent lower road toll than in 2009,'' Mr Woodhouse said.
In 2013, 66 people aged 15 to 24 were killed on the roads, compared with 105 in 2009.
