The road toll is down on the same time last year.
The latest figures show 307 people have been killed on roads so far this year, compared with 325 for the same period in 2004.
In Gisborne and Hawke's Bay the number of road fatalities has doubled from 15 this time last year to 30. Waikato has also fared badly, with the region's road toll jumping from 45 to 78 deaths.
Canterbury's toll remains steady with 38 deaths to the end of September this and last year.
