KEY POINTS:
Two sets of road spikes failed to stop a car that lead police on an early morning car chase through Wellington this morning.
Police said they received reports of four men breaking into cars in the suburb of Churton Park, near Johnsonville, about 4 am.
The alleged offenders took off in a Mitsubishi Lancer, which police found travelling north on State Highway One a short time later.
They tried to stop the car but it sped-off, sparking a police pursuit.
Road spikes in Mana managed to slow but not to stop the car.
Police said the car hit police road spikes again at McKays Crossing but despite it being badly damaged, its driver still refused to stop.
In Otaki, north of Waikanae, the car came to a stop and the men gave themselves up.
Police said a significant amount of stolen property was recovered from the car.
Four men will appear in the Wellington District Court today.
