A rural South Auckland road has reopened following a serious crash in which a pregnant woman was believed to be among the four people rushed to hospital.
Tonight one man remains in a critical condition, but another man and two women are stable in Middlemore Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Initial reports following the collision between two vehicles about 9.25am on Whitford Rd was that two people were fighting for their lives and a third had serious injuries. The fourth person was moderately injured.
The crash was one of four on the stretch of road this morning. The other three were understood to have been minor.
Firefighters had to free one of the occupants, a Fire Service spokeswoman said.
