A Tauranga man who launched a brutal road rage attack on an elderly woman motorist - has been jailed for two years.
George Frires appeared for sentence in the Tauranga District Court after earlier pleading guilty to injuring with intent.
The 21-year-old attacked the 81-year-old woman last month after running into the back of her car on his bicycle.
He wrenched open her door and punched her in the face. She suffered a broken nose, bruising, and smashed glasses.
Prosecutor Rob Ronayne told the court there is no such thing as road rage - just simple street thuggery.
The judge declined Frires leave to apply for home detention.
