The identity of a Canterbury businessman who is alleged to have put a man in hospital and killed a puppy in a case of extreme road rage can now be revealed.
Police allege Andrew McDaniel, 51, repeatedly ran down the victim, who was walking with his young children along the Eyre River, injuring his ankle, back and shoulder, and only missing his head by centimetres.
The family's puppy had to be euthanised after being struck by the vehicle.
McDaniel's application for continued name suppression was denied in the Christchurch District Court today.
He has indicated he will plead not guilty to charges of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and animal cruelty.
