Road deaths down

Road deaths are well down on last year according to Ministry of Transport figures.

This year there have been 47 deaths on the road compared with 73 at the same time last year. The news comes after the deaths of two people in crashes over the weekend.

One person died when a truck and trailer unit rolled on State Highway 1 between Waiouru and Turangi on Friday night. Another person died on Saturday afternoon after a car crashed into a power pole south of Auckland.
