This year's road toll of 155 is well down on the 190 fatalities recorded by this time last year, says the Land Transport Safety Authority.
Twice as many males (103) have been killed as females (51) this year but all age brackets have had fewer fatalities, apart from 25-to-39 group.
Yesterday at 4pm an 11-month-old child was run over and killed in a driveway in Ventura St, Mangere.
On Sunday, Peter Haupapa, 52, of Christchurch, died after being hit by a car in the city.
On Saturday, Amy-Lee Reid, 10, died after being knocked off her bicycle at Hope, near Nelson, and Arahia Waugh, 15, of Opotiki, died when the car she was in overturned at Waimana.
