KEY POINTS:
A large slip had closed the Napier-Taupo road (State Highway 5) last night.
"The road is closed as the result of a large slip coming down and blocking both lanes at a point 7km south of Mohaka Bridge," Inspector Ken Climo said.
"At this point no diversions are in place as there is no way around the slip."
One vehicle was struck by the slip as it came down, but no one was injured. Earlier police advised slips, fog and driving rain were making conditions hazardous for motorists on the road.
Conditions in the Te Pohue area were described as treacherous, with heavy fog and driving rain.
