Mr Irwin said the trust was delighted by the friendliness and support from farmers.
"They have raised valid issues, such as the risks of cyclists interacting with livestock and with a couple of exceptions, for which we now have suitable alternatives available, we have all the permissions required to make the trail workable as a basic off-road adventure trail."
Trust member Joe Howells tried out the 53km trail with a fellow member and said they really enjoyed it.
"What we are trying to do this year is get a lot of people on the trail to see what they think of it."
The trust had spent a lot of time last year working with the farmers and installing stiles over fences so cyclists didn't need to open farm gates. They had also put up marking posts and smoothed out some sections.
Mr Irwin said it was unlike other trails, such as the Rimutaka Cycle Trail or the Otago Rail Trail.
"It will be an adventure ride with a reasonable degree of fitness required.
"It is more for keen off-roaders and people will need a good mountainbike and some preparation to do it."
Mr Irwin said it will be open to professionally guided groups to start with, and Green Jersey Cycle Tours has put its hand up to run it.
The inaugural ride takes place on Saturday, February 15.
Cyclists can also continue further on to the coastal section of the Rimutaka Cycle Trail at Ocean Beach, which leads to Orongorongo.
The entry fee is $45 each, or $80 including mountainbike hire and helmet.
This includes a shuttle for rider and bike back to Martinborough and a BYO barbecue in the square to finish off.
