KEY POINTS:
Police will return to the banks of the Waimakariri River today as the search for missing Christchurch schoolgirl Marie Davis moves into its eighth day.
More than 80 reports of disorderly activity near the river prompted police to start searching the area yesterday.
Police said that last weekend - when 15-year-old Marie disappeared - there were disorder and noise disturbances reported in and around the area.
There has been no trace of Marie since she was dropped off outside her suburban Papanui home by a friend's mother last Saturdayweek.
Police are appealing for any sightings of Marie, or her green canvas shoulder bag which is missing from her home.
Detective Senior Sergeant Virginia Le Bas said 15-year-old girls "do not just disappear" and someone would have information that would help police find her.
As time goes on there are fears Marie, a keen photographer and Papanui High School student, has been abducted, with her friends and family saying she was not the kind of girl to run away.
Police have not ruled anything out, saying things are looking more sinister as time goes on.
Yesterday's search was conducted by 28 Land Search and Rescue volunteers but nothing was believed to have been found.
One of the items they are believed to have been looking for is a medium- sized khaki canvas shoulder bag which is believed to have contained Marie's cellphone - which hasn't been used since she disappeared - and some house keys.
Ms Le Bas said the river search was one of many lines of inquiry being conducted by the police.
Meanwhile, Marie's friends and family have been sticking posters of her around Christchurch. They have also started two websites, including one on Bebo - the social networking site Marie used under the name "Towards Darkness", the name of a 2007 film about a young photographer who is abducted and of a metal band.
Marie is described as part-Maori, about 1.68m tall, with brown eyes and shoulder-length, black hair. She is thought to be wearing dark trousers and a pink short-sleeved T-shirt with a white T-shirt underneath.
