The Wairarapa-Bush Rugby Union's council of clubs have tabled the draw for only the first two rounds of their premier division competition, and for good reason.
At the moment, 11 clubs have teams entered in the top grade but at least two of those sides are still struggling to finda full complement of players and could be forced to pull out.
"We have decided to confirm the draw for the first two weeks only in case the numbers come down; we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves and find that drastic changes have to be made," the union's council of clubs chairman, Tim Nathan, said yesterday. "Hopefully, all the clubs will be able to hang in there but right now we can't be sure of that."
Nathan said plans were for the premier division competition to involve one full round of matches for the Kapene Cup with the top eight sides then playing off for the main championship, and the bottom three joining the top three senior reserve sides in the premier two championship.
The premier division draw for the first two weekends is:-
March 24: Bush Sports v Masterton Red Star at Pahiatua, Carterton v Puketoi at Carterton, East Coast v Pioneer at Whareama, Marist v Eketahuna at Memorial Park, Martinborough v Gladstone at Martinborough, Greytown a bye.
March 31: Bush Sports v Marist at Pahiatua, Gladstone v Eketahuna at Gladstone, Masterton Red Star v East Coast at Memorial Park, Pioneer v Greytown at Park Sports, Puketoi v Martinborough at Puketoi, Carterton a bye.
