The annual Rimutaka incline fun run and walk held last weekend attracted a field of 850, among whom were a number of serious athletes who were out to break the magical one hour mark for the 17kms.
Achieving that target was first runner home Grant McLean who had little trouble negotiating the tricky underfoot conditions, tunnels and making his way through the walkers who had started earlier in the day.
Second across the line was well-performed Masterton veteran Tony Price while two of the major spot prizes up for grabs went to Masterton competitors as well.
Athletics Carterton held the third race in their twilight summer road racing series in Greytown with everyone taking part improving on their previous best time. Raced under a handicap format it saw Robbie Wilton first across the line amongst the walkers with his uncle Norm Wilton second and Mary Pope and Ali Lang sharing third.
