Invercargill police were in the right place at the right time to arrest two men fleeing from an alleged armed robbery this morning.
The men went into the Appleby Tavern on Nith Street about 9am, Sergeant Ian Temple, of Invercargill police, told NZPA.
They allegedly held up two women staff members and escaped with money.
As they ran from the building they were stopped "around the corner" by officers who happened to be in the area and had just received a call about the hold-up, Mr Temple said.
"It was just good timing."
The stolen cash was recovered, he said.
"It was a real good news story."
Mr Temple would not say what weapons the men allegedly had.
A 22-year-old and a 28-year-old, both from Invercargill, were to appear in Invercargill District Court this afternoon charged with aggravated robbery.
