The backing song for the cup's ticketing campaign has been confirmed as Kiwi rock band The Feelers' version of the 1990 song Right Here, Right Now by Jesus Jones.
The song will feature in an advertisement urging fans to pre-register their interest for tickets. The campaign is being supported by several well known Kiwis including Jonah Lomu, Valerie Vili and Jeremy Wells.
The Mike Edwards-penned song has previously been used by candidate Gerard Kennedy at the 2006 Liberal leadership convention in Canada and as an advertising tune for a popular New Zealand lager and American retail giant K-Mart.
The Herald had heard strong rumours that the song would be used as the tournament's marketing jingle but Mike Jaspers, Rugby New Zealand 2011 communications manager, refused to be drawn on the issue.
"We want to keep it a surprise," he said before today's announcement.
Jaspers said the song would not replace World in Union as the official Rugby World Cup tune.
