A commercial flight out of Wellington Airport was delayed yesterday after two .22-calibre rifle rounds were found on the floor of a departure lounge.
The rounds appeared to have travelled through some security screening, as they were found on the 'wrong' side of the domestic lounge metal detectors, The Dominion Post reported.
An Air New Zealand flight from Wellington to Auckland at 8am was delayed for 35 minutes while the 70 passengers were rescreened.
Aviation Security Service said the rounds could have been there for some time.
No other weapons or ammunition were discovered during the rescreening.
