An 18-year-old man is in a stable condition in hospital after the stolen motorcycle he was riding collided with a car in west Auckland today.
He was not wearing a helmet, said Constable Paul Hayward of the police serious crash unit.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Barrys Rd and Hepburn Rd, Glendene, shortly after midday.
The motorcyclist had been travelling up Barrys Rd when it went through a T-junction and crashed into the side of a van, Mr Hayward said.
It did not appear to have been a high-speed crash.
He was taken to Auckland Hospital where he was in a stable condition in the emergency department, and was due to be transferred to a ward later this evening, a hospital spokesman told NZPA.
The driver of the van was shocked but uninjured.
