A Masterton trail bike rider who led police on a merry chase all over town on Friday night was eventually nabbed and breath tested.
Up to four patrol cars followed the runaway motorcyclist at various times during the controlled pursuit, as he weaved his way through town streets, allegedly at speeds of up to 90km/h.
Police began tailing the trail bike rider about 8.30pm in Te Ore Ore Rd and finally stopped him over half an hour later, but not before he had traversed much of the town.
Police say that at various times during the pursuit the trail biker tried to elude officers by travelling from Te Ore Ore Rd to Colombo Rd, Herbert St, Johnston St, Cameron Cres, around the netball courts, back to Colombo Rd, Cockburn St, into Chapel St, Villa St, along Akura Rd into Kibblewhite Rd, Upper Plain, Pownall St, crossed into Dixon St, into Park St past the police station, Wrigley St, back to Villa St, into Lincoln Rd, and finally into Bentley St, where his bike stalled on the river bank.
Pursuing police included a dog unit. A man aged 19 was apprehended and breath tested.
