North Shore's Richard Hills has been confirmed as the final councillor elected to Auckland Council after a six-day wait.
The initial count last Saturday resulted in a neck-and-neck race between 30-year-old Mr Hills and fellow candidate Grant Gillon with Auckland Council deeming the race too close to call.
The final count, including special votes, confirmed Mr Hills, now Auckland's youngest councillor, won the second North Shore ward seat by 128 votes.
Chris Darby won North Shore's first seat on council with 19,396 votes, compared to Hills' 12,651.
Hills said he's excited and humbled by the result, and said the tight race showed the importance of voting.
