KEY POINTS:
An Auckland man serving a 17-year sentence for importing 12.5kg of methamphetamine valued at up to $12.5 million in lava lamps has had his conviction set aside by the Supreme Court.
Alex Kwong Wong will now be retried on two charges of importing methamphetamine, and one each of supplying the drug, possessing it for supply and money laundering.
He was found guilty by a jury in the High Court at Auckland in June 2006. He appealed on the grounds that his trial was allowed to proceed with only 10 jurors.
