The owners and operators of a 300-bed Rotorua retirement village say limited Government money and extra compliance costs have forced them out.
Jenny and Paul Bradley established Rotorua's Glenbrae Lifestyle Estate 15 years ago. The complex now has a 40-bed rest home and hospital, 78 independent living units and 17 apartments. Mrs Bradley said they had to spend extra money on staff and other compliance costs to meet strict new conditions.
"It has become increasingly difficult to get a reasonable return on our investment," she said.
