Police hope preliminary results from forensic examinations of three cars seized in connection with the death of a Wellington pedestrian on Sunday will be available tomorrow.
Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter, of Wellington CIB, said police were making "slow but steady" progress in their investigation into the death of Amy Edward-Mintorn on Cambridge Terrace early on Sunday morning.
Ms Edward-Mintorn, 23, was hit by at least one car as she crossed the central Wellington street, a popular boy racer strip, about 1.40am on Sunday.
The vehicles - a red Toyota Trueno, a white Subaru coupe and a silver/grey Subaru - have been seized for forensic examination.
Witness reports have differed as to whether Ms Edward-Mintorn was struck by one or more cars.
She was crossing the road whilst talking on her cellphone when the accident happened.
Mr Cotter said police had spoken to several more people who were in the area at the time of Ms Edward-Mintorn's death.
Specialists from the Wellington police Serious Crash Unit had surveyed a stretch of Cambridge Terrace on Tuesday night.
Mr Cotter said the survey measurements, combined with the vehicle reports, would help police determine how fast the cars were travelling.
The three vehicles had been seen lined up in separate lanes at the Vivian St intersection moments before Ms Edward-Mintorn was struck, near College St.
Police have received reports from members of the public that cars were racing in the Kent and Cambridge Terrace areas earlier on Saturday night.
