KEY POINTS:
British sportscar company Morgan has revamped its Aero 8, restyling the front end and trimming the car's weight to a slimline 1145kg.
It also offers a removeable carbon-fibre top for the first time, a design similar in function to the hard-top roof Mazda had as an MX-5 option a few years ago.
It's the Aero 8's first makeover since 2000 when it replaced the Plus 8. Improvements include a 15cm-wider cockpit and better soundproofing and heatproofing.
The Aero 8 also gets remote central locking, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and headlight washers - gadgets that traditional Morgan owners might find excessive.
The car is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine from BMW.
It is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and develops 242kW (325bhp) at 6100rpm and around 430Nm of torque at 3600rpm.
The two-door sprints from zero to 100km/h in a claimed 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 260km/h (160mph).
Its AP racing brake system pulls the car up from 100km/h in a claimed 35.8 metres, which rivals the braking distance of the heavier Porsche 911 Turbo.
The Aero 8 is a sleek thoroughbred, 4120mm long, 1770mm wide and 1200mm high. Each model is handbuilt over an aluminium chassis and costs £62,500 ($180,000) in Britain.
The old Plus 8 and its 4.6-litre Rover V8 engine couldn't pass US exhaust emissions laws, which is why Morgan shut production down.
The Aero 8 meets the latest requirements, says the company, and offers fuel consumption of 10.9 litres/100km or 25.9 mpg.
