A number of rest home residents were hauled out of their beds in the early hours of the morning after a heater caught fire.
Northern Fire Service spokesman Scott Osmond said firefighters were called to the Edenvale Rest Home in Mt Eden at 1.45am.
An unknown number of rest home residents were evacuated for a short period of time, he said.
Four fire crews attended the blaze - from a hallway heater - and put out the fire in a matter of minutes, he said.
"[It was] put out very quickly. People were evacuated but not for long.
