Residents in the disappearing Christchurch suburb of Brooklands have one last chance this weekend to say goodbye.
The Brooklands celebration party is being held on Sunday, and is expected to be the final community event before the red-zoned area is abandoned.
Organising committee member Jo Wall says the event is also an opportunity for people to show solidarity to those determined to stay put in the northeastern suburb.
"Certainly a significant group, who are going to go off the grid if they have to and hang out here. When everyone kind of accepts everyone's situation is different, then good on them if they're able to say."
Jo Wall says the party kicks off at 1pm on Sunday and will include a memory walk, historical displays and ideas for a permanent memorial to be built in Brooklands.
