A rescue helicopter is heading to the Abel Tasman National Park to ferry a girl with a broken arm out of the wilderness area.
The Rescue Co-ordination Centre said a distress beacon was set off at 10.10am on a coastal track at Torrent Bay.
A spokesman said a child in a party of 12 trampers needed urgent medical help after breaking her arm.
A helicopter was flying into the area to take the injured girl to hospital for treatment.
